RADICAL HOPE FROM GAZA:
A COLLECTION OF ESSAYS BY AYA AL-HATTAB

An Introduction from the Editors-in-Chief of Solarpunk Magazine
What does it mean to hold on to hope when the world around you is being destroyed? What does it mean to imagine a better future when even the possibility of an ordinary tomorrow feels uncertain at best?
In this powerful six-part series, Palestinian writer and journalist Aya Al-Hattab takes us into the lived realities of Gaza, offering an intimate and deeply human perspective on war, occupation, displacement, loss, and the struggle to preserve hope. Through personal reflections, historical examination, and stories of everyday compassion, Al-Hattab reveals the profound consequences of violence on people, communities, animals, and the places they call home.
Throughout these essays, a central truth emerges: hope requires the courage to imagine a future beyond the suffering of the present, even when that future feels impossibly distant. Sometimes that hope takes the form of caring for a beloved animal, remembering a familiar street, or simply dreaming of a home filled with books and loved ones.
At Solarpunk Magazine, we believe imagining better futures is inseparable from confronting the injustices that prevent them. Aya’s writing reminds us why those futures are so important, and why the right to peace, dignity, freedom, and an ordinary life is worth fighting for.
We are deeply honored to share her words. We invite you to read these essays with open hearts, to bear witness, and to consider what radical hope demands of all of us.
