We’ve got some exciting announcements to share! There’s a brand-new lunarpunk anthology seeking submissions, our special horror-themed issue of Solarpunk Magazine is available for preorder, we’re going to start publishing solarpunk novellas and novels, and our complete 2027 submissions schedule is now up on our website’s submissions page.
So whether you’re a reader looking for your next great story or a writer dreaming up better futures, here’s what’s coming.
What Blooms in Darkness: A Lunarpunk Anthology Opens for Submissions November 1st
Submission Window: November 1 – December 31, 2026

Android Press is preparing to venture into the shadows with What Blooms in Darkness: A Lunarpunk Anthology, edited by our co-editor-in-chief, Justine Norton-Kertson, and scheduled for publication in autumn 2027.
Lunarpunk shares solarpunk’s commitment to ecological regeneration, social justice, community, and liberatory futures, while exploring the possibilities that emerge in darkness, mystery, privacy, dreams, and the hidden corners of our world.
What Blooms in Darkness asks some fascinating questions: What kinds of communities thrive beyond the reach of surveillance? What knowledge survives underground? What forms of liberation become possible when people are free to remain unseen?
Android Press is seeking stories about everything from nocturnal ecosystems and underground communities to secret mutual-aid networks, hidden cultures, rituals, and resistance movements. The anthology welcomes imaginative interpretations of lunarpunk, especially stories that challenge the assumption that darkness is inherently dangerous or frightening.
Submission details:
- Length: 1,500–10,000 words
- Payment: $0.08 per word
- Genre: Lunarpunk, climate fiction, and related speculative fiction
- Eligibility: Original, unpublished fiction by human authors worldwide
- Expected publication: Autumn 2027
Whether you’re a writer or a reader, you can easily sign up to get a notification when the anthology’s crowdfunder launches in March 2027!
Cover Reveal and Preorders: Solarpunk Horror Is Coming November 10th!
We’ve spent years exploring what better futures might look like. Now we’re inviting some monsters into the garden. We’re thrilled to reveal the cover and complete table of contents for Solarpunk Magazine Issue #30, our special Solarpunk Horror issue, arriving November 10, 2026!
Cover art by Chris Panatier

Horror and solarpunk might seem like an unusual combination, but we think they have a lot to say to each other. What happens when the ghosts of ecological destruction refuse to stay buried? What kinds of monsters might haunt societies struggling to heal centuries of exploitation? And how do things like fear, grief, survival, and resistance fit into our visions of better futures?
This extra large special issue brings together fiction, poetry, essays, and artwork that explore the darker edges of solarpunk imagination. We’re especially excited about the lineup of writers and artists contributing to this issue.

Mark Your Calendars: Our 2027 Submissions Schedule
Planning to send us something in 2027? Here are the dates to remember! Our regular magazine submission windows for short stories, poetry, essays, and art will be the same as they were in 2026:
- January 1–14, 2027
- April 1–14, 2027
- July 1–14, 2027
- October 1–14, 2027
We also have two special themed issues planned for 2027!
Colorful Roots
Our sixth annual Colorful Roots issue will publish in July and continue our commitment to celebrating the voices and imaginations of Black, Indigenous, and other writers and artists of color. Colorful Roots has become an important part of our publishing calendar, and we’re excited to continue creating space for the diverse perspectives and experiences that are essential to solarpunk’s vision of collective liberation. BIPOC authors and artists can submit work for this issue during any submission window by using the tag #BIPOC in the submission cover letter.
September 2027: Stories of Accessible Futures
Our September special issue, Stories of Accessible Futures, will explore a question we think deserves far more attention in speculative fiction: What would our futures look like if accessibility were built into the foundations of society from the very beginning?
We’re seeking original solarpunk short fiction that imagines communities, technologies, environments, and cultures shaped by accessibility, disability justice, and collective care. We want memorable characters, compelling conflicts, and meaningful character arcs set in worlds where people have made substantial progress toward creating accessible, equitable societies.
Submissions for this special issue will be accepted during April 1–14 submission window only, and are open exclusively to writers who identify as disabled. Self-identification is sufficient; no medical documentation or disclosure of diagnoses is required.
You can find the complete submission call, eligibility details, and guidelines on our submissions page. If our submission process is not accessible for you, please email us at info@solarpunkmagazine.com and we’ll work with you on alternative submission methods.
