The crowd funding campaign for City of Hope, a solarpunk narrative worldbuilding RPG, starts in just one week! We’re really excited to get this game, which is written and illustrated by our co-editor-in-chiefs, out into the world. We recently announced that everyone who backs the campaign on Day 1 (October 1st) will get an enamel pin of the Solarpunk Magazine sun logo.

We have high hopes for the campaign, especially since the proceeds will help us ensure we can continue to pay 8 cents per word through 2025 for the fiction we publish. That’s why our overall goal for the campaign (including stretch goals) is to raise $10k. We can’t even begin to express how grateful we are to our community, all of you who have pulled together for the last three years to help ensure we reach our funding goals. Without you all, Solarpunk Magazine wouldn’t be what it is today!
With that said, we’ve got the latest character book sneak peek from City of Hope for you! Character art is illustrated by Brianna Castagnozzi, and the character description was written by Justine Norton-Kertson.
THE CARETAKER
In the City of Hope, the Caretaker emerges as a beacon of empathy and healing, skillfully blending the art of modern medicine with ancient holistic practices to care for the community’s well-being.
With hands skilled in the crafts of nursing and herbalism, and a heart that listens deeply, they offer solace and healing to both body and soul. Ceremonial healers and empaths, they navigate the intricacies of emotional and spiritual wellness, providing a haven for those in search of understanding and peace.
Beyond their healing touch, they advocate for the marginalized, ensuring that every voice is heard and every individual finds a place within the community’s embrace.

The Caretaker is not just a role but a manifestation of the city’s core values: compassion, interconnectedness, and the relentless pursuit of a society where everyone is nurtured and valued. Through their dedicated efforts, they exemplify the transformative power of care, knitting together the diverse tapestry of the City of Hope into a stronger, united community.
